Subject:

Reference:
NUREG 1843 Supplement 1, "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Units 1, 2, and 3,"
Dated April 2006 The referenced safety evaluation identified the commitments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that are required to be completed prior to Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, (BFN) Unit 2, entering the period of extended operation on June 28, 2014. BFN, Unit 2, License Condition 2.E states in part, "certain future activities shall be completed prior to the period of extended (POE) operation. WVA shall complete these activities no later than June 28, 2014, and shall notify the NRC in writing when implementation of these activities are complete and can be verified by NRC inspection."
The Tennessee Valley Authority has completed the commitments specified in the referenced safety evaluation required for entry of Unit 2 into POE. One commitment; Perform sprinkler heads inspections to ensure signs of degradation, such as loss of material due to corrosion, are detected in a timely manner, has been revised. The revised commitment states: Sprinkler heads for each unit will be replaced or inspected.
If sprinklers are not replaced they shall be inspected prior to the end of the fifty year service life and at ten year intervals thereafter in accordance with NFPA-25. This commitment remains open.
