-rF I\\/FD Emergency Planning Exemption Requests for Decommissioning Nuclear-Power Plants Comment On: NRC-2014-0002-0003 Emergency Planning Exemption Requests for Decommissioning Nuclear Power Plants; Extension of Comment Period Document: NRC-2014-0002-DRAFT-00 11 Comment on FR Doc # 2014-05105 Submitter Information Name: Glen Ayers Address:
12 Olive Street Greenfield, MA, 01301 Email: glenayers@frcog.org General Comment I am strongly opposed to the elimination of Emergency Planning for communities within the evacuation zone of Vermont Yankee. In fact, the NRC should expand the EPZ to 50 miles during the decommissioning process when there is a greater likelihood of accident and catastrophic system failure. Why did the NRC recommend a 50-mile evacuation zone in Japan, when the same reactor type here in the US only needs a 10-mile zone? As we continue to see in Japan, radiation doesn't behave according to plans and stay within 10 miles of a core meltdown. High levels of toxic radiation has contaminated vast areas of Japan well beyond the 10-mile limit. An expanded EPZ is especially needed when Entergy is trying to cut every corner they can to save money and avoid responsibility.
Until this mess at VY is completely decontaminated, the owner must be held responsible to protect the communities that are currently impacted by the constant nuclear releases and "leaks". INCREASE THE EPZ TO 50 MILES!!!!!!!!
