ACE - Limerick Low-Level Radioactive Wastes - Volumes and Destinations (EDATS 2014-0112)
Mr. Bower -
The information being sought is not included in the reports you have identified. What we specifically requested is reports for Limerick on their SOLID low-level radioactive wastes produced, and listings of the volumes of solid LLRW produced at Limerick each year for which records exist. In addition, we also want records of the specific destinations and volume amounts where Limerick's solid LLRW were disposed. We want to know the exact volume in pounds or tons for each shipment. The number of trucks or shipments sent is not sufficiently specific. NRC website information only identifies approved disposal sites and totals for the nation.
Please provide us with this specific information for Limerick Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible.
Thank you.

RE: ACE - Limerick Low-Level Radioactive Wastes - Volumes and Destinations (EDATS 2014-0112)
Dr. Cuthbert (ACE),
Based on my understanding of your request, I believe that the information that you seek is in the annual Radioactive Effluents Release Report that Exelon submits for Limerick in accordance with Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 50.36a (a)(2). As I previously provided you in my email of March 31, 2014, these reports can be located on our website at: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/ops-experience/tritium/plant-info.html.
If you are unable to locate the reports using this link (that worked for me), I suggest that you call me at 610-337-5200 and I will attempt to step you through retrieval of this information via computer.
Please call today since I will be leaving the office this afternoon for NRC mission-related travel and will not return to the office until April 14, 2014. While I am on travel, I will not be checking my voicemail or responding to emails.
If you choose not call, I will provide a more detailed email response sometime before May 7, 2014.
Sincerely, Fred Bower

Re: Limerick Low-Level Radioactive Wastes - Volumes and Destinations Mr. Bower, That is not acceptable. It shouldn't take 30 days for you to provide us with ADAMS locations for LLRW documents and reports to which you referred us. They were not available where you sent us. You claimed you had the information, but failed to adequately identify where it can be located.
We started discussing this issue January 25, 2014, over two months ago. It is now April 7. If you wait 30 more days, we will be unable to review those ADAMS documents in order to have an informed discussion with you at the 5-7-14 meeting.
We are asking you to send the ADAMS LLRW locations within the next week.
Thank you, Dr. Cuthbert From: "Fred Bower" <Fred.Bower@nrc.gov>

RE: Limerick Low-Level Radioactive Wastes - Volumes and Destinations
Dear Dr. Cuthbert (ACE):
I have received and performed an initial review of your email. Because my initial review did not identify an immediate or overriding safety issue, we will use our normal response procedures and respond to you within a reasonable period of time (usually 30 days).

Limerick Low-Level Radioactive Wastes - Volumes and Destinations Mr. Bower, After spending considerable time trying to locate the information we seek, its appears your response and links to information below has only provides information for liquid and gaseous radioactive releases.
We are interested in specifically reviewing all solid LLRW reports for Limerick's since 2009. You state below, "Included in the regulation is a requirements for each licensee to report on the disposal of solid LLRW.
Data reported includes:
- (1) type of waste (e.g., spent resin, dry active waste, irradiated components);
- (2) total quantity (volume) for each type of waste;
- (3) total activity (in Curies) for each type of waste; and (4) disposition location."
The links you provided to us and multiple searches of ADAMS failed to locate any documents or data related to these reports.
Please identify ADAMS Accession Numbers where we can review these reports for Limerick's SOLID LLRW volume and disposal destinations for 2009 through 2013. Please include ADAMS Accession Numbers for ALL Limerick LLRW shipments to Peach Bottom for the same time period.
This information would be very much appreciated as soon as possible as we are preparing questions for the upcoming May meeting and need time for review and analysis of that information.
Thank you, Dr. Lewis Cuthbert
