Re: Trailer Park on Buhne Point, Near HBPP Hi Alan, thank you for taking the time to inquire about the King Salmon community. The mobile home (trailer parks) you are asking about do provide some affordable housing opportunities in our area. As the county supervisor and before that the Harbor Commissioner (now retired) who represented that community for 17 years I have considerable experience with the people and the issues that influence their lives. Originally the parks and some of the surrounding housing accommodated thriving recreational and commercial fisheries. Visitors from inland California and surrounding states booked spaces and spent the summer here enjoying a temperate climate and bountiful fishing. A series of bad circumstances led to diminished fishing fishing opportunities and the visitors were replaced by a lot of problem tenants. Over a period of years, most notably 2000' to 2010', the county in cooperation with a number of agencies and concerned residents, improved the community significantly. Ownership changed in one of the parks and management changed in the other one. Fish populations have rebounded and services have improved to accommodate visitors. The entire community is slowly experiencing new construction and a renewed seaside ambiance. PG&E has committed to dredging the navigation channel that serves the boaters and fishing businesses, most especially the two trailer/mobile home/RV parks that you are concerned with. While the parks do provide some affordable housing, they also have spaces for lots of fishermen and other visitors. PG&E has an outreach team that works effectively with the residents I and local government. I think PG&Es' effort to maintain the navigation canal will assure viability for the parks. Please feel free to call me if I can provide more background, I gave you the condensed version in this communication. Thank you for asking about this very special community. Jimmy Smith.

Mr. Smith, I am preparing the environmental assessment for the Humboldt Bay Power Plant, Unit 3 License Termination Plan by PG&E. The question I have is one that I have not seen addressed in any of the documents I have reviewed. It is "Is the Trailer Park southwest of the HBPP either a minority or low income community, or both? Is there a source for this information? Thank you.
