CONFIRMATION OF INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS:
DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER
Dear Mr. Anderson:
We have received your letter NG-12-0348, dated August 27, 2012. In that letter, you requested that initial operator licensing examinations be scheduled in November 2014 and November 2016. However, based on telephone communications with Mr. T. Biesterfield of your staff and Mr. K. Walton of my staff on January 23, 2014, both of these examination dates were adjusted and scheduled for subsequent years.
Presently, an initial operator licensing examination has been scheduled for the weeks of April 6 and 13, 2015, with an onsite validation date of March 16, 2015. This exam will be written by NRC Region III, Operator Licensing Branch. Additionally, an initial operator licensing examination has been scheduled for the weeks of April 17 and 24, 2017, at the Duane Arnold Energy Center with an onsite validation date of March 27, 2017.
The NRC will write your April 2015 initial license exam in accordance with NUREG 1021, Revision 9, Supplement 1. In the unlikely event that we are unable to support the examination during the scheduled weeks, we will inform you immediately, upon discovery, of such conditions and make arrangements to administer the examination at a mutually acceptable date.
We understand that your staff will develop the examination scheduled for 2017 unless we determine it is necessary for the NRC to develop an examination in which case, we will notify you immediately upon discovery of that need. Because your letter indicated that there were more than nine applicants being considered for these examinations, the examinations were scheduled for two weeks. Please inform us if the number of candidates change for any examination as this will impact the examination schedule. Also, please inform us at your earliest opportunity if you discover you need to change the scheduled dates for the examinations.
A supplementary letter will be sent to the training department approximately 120 days prior to the examination informing the training manager of the chief examiners name. The letter will also outline examination security expectations, list the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, reconfirm the examination date, and reconfirm the number of candidates you have in the Training Program.
