February 11, 2014 Ms. Lesa Hill, BWROG Chairman Southern Nuclear Operating Company PO Box 1295 Bin B048 Birmingham, AL 35201-1295
Subject:
Request for List of Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group (BWROG) Planned Topical Report Submittals for FY2014, FY2015, and FY2016
Dear Ms. Hill:
On May 2, 2012, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a public meeting to discuss prioritizing the review of topical reports (TRs). At that meeting, the process for determining the priority of a TR review was discussed in detail. The need for this prioritization is due to the limited resources the NRC has to assign to the review of a TR.
As presented at that meeting, several factors were included in the matrix that was applied to each TR to determine its review priority. The details of these factors are documented in the meeting minutes found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System at Accession No. ML12135A525.
As was committed to at the May 2, 2012, meeting, the NRC staff is available to meet with the BWROG and discuss the results of the prioritization process.
The NRC staff is seeking up-to-date information on future BWROG TR submittals. This additional information will help the NRC staff in budget development and resource implementation.
In order to help the NRC staff plan for future TR reviews, it is requested that you provide a list of TRs you plan to submit in Fiscal Years (FYs) FY2014, FY2015, and FY2016 (if available). The following information for each TR should be provided:
if it will apply to existing plants, new reactors, or both, the estimated number of licensed facilities planning to use the approved TR, any specific operating plant or new reactor type indicated intent to include the safety evaluation in licensing actions once the TR is approved by the staff, and if a fee-exemption request will be submitted under Section 170.11 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Please provide this information within 30 days of receipt of this letter. The NRC staff plans to request similar future updates at semiannual intervals to assist us in continually improving our utilization of resources. For your convenience a table format is provided in the enclosure to this letter.
When submitting this information, please provide us with the resources it took to prepare the information. This will give the NRC needed information to support future Paperwork Reduction Act requirements.
L. Hill Paperwork Reduction Act Statement This letter contains information collection requirements that are subject to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.). These information collections were approved by the Office of Management and Budget, approval number 3150-0216.
The burden to the public for these (voluntary) information collections is estimated to average 10 hours1.157407e-4 days
0.00278 hours
1.653439e-5 weeks
3.805e-6 months
per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the information collection.
