Allison Macfarlane MAY RUTH SEIDEL 56 GROSS HILL ROAD WELLFLEET, MD 02667 November 21,2013 U.S. Nuclear Regulation commission Washington, D.C. 20555-0001
Dear M's Macfarlane:
I am a very lucky woman of 89 years and have a house in Wellfleet, MA on Cape Cod. I write to you because I spend 6 months of each year here and often have children and grandchildren visit.
The Pilgrim Nuclear Plant must be shut down for the safety of the living creatures in its neighborhood. We have no possible evacuation route should this plant break down and radiation be released. This is unacceptable. We have been told that should this tragedy happen we should "Shelter in Place".
That is not a viable option - not for me, my family, my friends and my neighbors.
As Cape Cod bay waters warm, as they did this summer, the spent rods will not be able to cool using bay water. If a hurricane hits near the nuclear plant All living creatures on Cape Cod will suffer, probably die. There must be another way to provide electricity to Connecticut.
Other old nuclear plants are closing, the Pilgrim nuclear plant must be closed as well. Doing nothing is irrational, irresponsible and intolerable. ACT NOW, NOT TOMORROW!
Thank you.
Sincerely, ?
