Letter from TVA to NRC, "10 CFR Part 21 Interim Report - Engine Systems, Inc. - Relay Contact A4X-A4Y," dated September 24, 2013 On September 24, 2013, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an interim Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 21 Report (Reference) regarding Relay Contact A4X-A4Y (Allen-Bradley logic reed contact Part Number CPR-700) for Relay FSR1X, which is part of the D Emergency Diesel Generator shutdown circuit. The relay contact failed to operate as expected. Relay Contact A4X-A4Y was sent to Engine Systems, Inc. to determine the cause of the failure.
Engine Systems, Inc. completed their evaluation of Relay Contact A4X-A4Y and determined that the relay contact was functioning properly and not defective. Since the relay contact was determined to be not defective, no deviation in a basic component existed and the condition is no longer subject to an evaluation pursuant to 10 CFR Part 21. Therefore, the referenced interim report may be closed with no additional action required.
