TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY (TVA) - SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SON) - NPDES PERMIT NO. TN0026450 - DISCHARGE MONITORING REPORT (DMR) FOR SEPTEMBER 2013 Enclosed is the September 2013 Discharge Monitoring Report for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant. The turbine building sump was discharged directly to the yard drainage pond during the month. The turbine building sump was monitored in accordance with the narrative condition found in Part I.A.2 of NPDES Permit TN0026450 and the data is provided in Attachment 1. Additionally, information pertaining to data collected and reported for Internal Monitoring Point 103 can also be found in. TVA Sequoyah Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. TN0026450 Turbine Building Sump Monitoring Data The turbine building sump was discharged directly to the yard drainage pond from 09/18/2013 to 09/19/2013. During this period, the turbine building sump was monitored in accordance with the narrative condition found in Part 1.A.2 of NPDES Permit TN0026450.

Internal Monitoring Point 103 Additional Information On 9/16/2013 at 0925 EDT the pH at Internal Monitoring Point (IMP) 103 was 5.9 s.u. Follow up samples were collected at 0945 EDT and 1003 EDT with a result of 5.7 s.u. each time. SQN responded by isolating IMP 103 to stop the discharge. Additionally, a sample was collected at SQN Outfall 101 (Diffuser Discharge to Tennessee River) and the pH was 7.1 s.u. This demonstrates that discharge to the Tennessee River did not contribute to a violation of instream water quality criteria per Rule 1200-04-03.03.

SQN attributed the lower pH levels to the low volume waste treatment pond being at an abnormally low elevation. After the pond elevation was raised, SQN reinitiated discharge from Internal Monitoring Point 103 on 9/17/2013. A sample was collected at 1400 EDT and the pH was 6.8 s.u. Monitoring results were reported on the DMR in accordance with the permit limitations and DMR set example provided by TDEC. No permit violation had occurred, although this information was provided in abundance of caution and to remain transparent.
