Subject:
Upcoming RAI for 10-160B Mr. Sisley, I am writing to inform you of one upcoming Request for Additional Information on the 10-160B amendment request. The topic (structural) is as follows:
Provide an analysis or justification that repaired bolt holes will meet regulatory requirements for lifting.
The SAR states that a 150% load test will be performed, which meets the ASME Code requirements for MT examination, however, the regulatory requirement states that lifting devices must be designed with a minimum safety factor of three against yielding when used to lift the package in the intended manner. Analysis to meet this regulatory requirement was only provided for unrepaired bolt holes (threads).
Due to current uncertainty with the government shutdown, I cannot estimate when the RAI might be sent to you officially. I will attempt to have the letter out by next Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
Feel free to call or email with any questions.
- Regards, John A. Vera, Ph.D.
