We (PA DEP/BRP) have reviewed the NRC draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the exemption request for the Independent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) at Peach Bottom. We concur with a one-time grant of the licensee request to have the 4 U3 fuel assemblies with cooling times less than 10 years remain in their storage cask on the ISFSI pad.
We have carefully considered the potential negative consequences of the alternative to the proposed action, i.e., increased exposure to personnel, radioactive releases to the environment, and general radiological risks associated with the lifting and handling of spent nuclear fuel.
