- NON EMERGENCY The following information was received by facsimile:
"At approximately 0819 on July 28th, 2013, a live sturgeon was captured from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash !racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be a Short Nose sturgeon, which is an
'endangered' species. Short Nose sturgeons are federally listed as 'endangered' species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a.
"At approximately 1111 the sturgeon died while in the care of the CW yand crew who recovered it. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has examined the sturgeon and at 1125 has contacted the National Marine Fisheries.
"A message was also left to the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife, concerning the Short Nose sturgeon at 1132 by Environmental licensing."
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notified the R1DO (Dimitriadis) and the Endangered Species Group.
