Dear Mr. Aeschback:
I am writing in response to your letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) dated July 10, 2013, regarding concerns with the adequacy of the existing Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant emergency planning zone (EPZ); and request to extend the EPZ size from 10 to 50 miles. As part of the NRCs review of lessons learned from the Fukushima event, the NRC staff determined that there was no immediate information to suggest that the NRCs existing basis for EPZ size was inadequate. However, NRC is committed to continue its review of EPZ size as additional insights are gained from Fukushima studies.
