Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Request for Additional Information Regarding Final Feedwater Temperature Reduction (FFWTR) license amendment request (ME9873)

Guy, By letter dated October 26, 2012 (Agencywide Documents Access management System (ADAMS) Accession number ML123060613), Entergy Operations, Inc. (the licensee), requested an amendment to Facility Operating License Number NPF-29 for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). The license amendment request (LAR) proposes to delete Section 2.C.(32) of the GGNS Operating License, which currently prohibits operating with partial feedwater heating for the purpose of extending the fuel cycle.

The NRC staff has determined that additional information is needed to complete our review of this request. The following request for additional information (RAIs) are related to your LAR dated October 26,2012:

1) Section 3 of NEDC-33671P, Revision 0 does not state the impact of final feedwater temperature reduction (FFWTR) on the current licensing basis containment analysis for net positive suction head (NPSH) for design basis and non-design basis events. Please provide the results of the analysis including explanation if containment accident pressure is needed for the available NPSH for emergency core cooling system (ECCS) and containment heat removal pumps.
