RE: Pilgrim License Renewal questions

Briana, JRWA sent a letter to Mary Colligan of NMFS re: Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.

I found this letter searching the internet on this subject.

RE: Pilgrim License Renewal questions

Joe, Do you guys have copies of the letters that were sent to NMFS? I can forward them on if you want them. I don't have one specifically from JRWA, though. What I have is from Ecolaw, Pilgrim Watch, and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

Pilgrim License Renewal questions Hi Julie, I'm a biologist at Pilgrim and have been helping Briana Balsam get information related to License Renewal.

Entergy learned yesterday that counsel for the Jones River Watershed Association ("JRWA"), on behalf of an unidentified network of groups but we assume including JRWA, has submitted another set of comments to the NMFS Northeast Regional Administrator seeking to delay a decision on the NRC consultation under the Endangered Species Act on the NRC's 2006 Biological Assessment and 2012 Supplemental Biological Assessment relating to Pilgrim's license renewal.

We are disappointed that the JRWA's counsel has chosen to do so just days before a decision from your office was expected, particularly since consultation on the 2006 Biological Assessment was initiated over five years ago and any concerns with that Assessment are profoundly untimely. We are also disappointed that the new comments fail to disclose that Entergy has already addressed JRWA concerns in pleadings before the NRC. In particular, in response to similar concerns that JRWA sought to raise in a new contention before the NRC, Entergy submitted the attached Affidavit of Michael D. Scherer almost a month ago. It is part of the record in the NRC proceeding and may also be accessed at http://adamswebsearch2.nrc.gov/webSearch2/main.jsp2?AccessionNumber='ML12079A221'.

We hope that this affidavit will provide a more accurate assessment than that portrayed by JRWA and trust that the eleventh hour filing by JRWA's counsel will not prevent NMFS from concluding its consultation as previously scheduled.

If you have any questions, or if there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to contact me.
