Dear Chairman Macfarlane,
Lately I've been feeling a grave concern for the use of nuclear power plants. I understand that I have one here in my own backyard, which is Turkey Point Power Plant. This power plant belongs to FPL and the City of Homestead applied for an expansion of the plant, and I feel that we need to move away from the use of nuclear power plants.
The reason is that all nuclear power plants have their down sides. In many cases it causes health problems for the people around it as well as causing environmental issues causing the area around it to not be able to thrive. There is also a high risk in using nuclear power plants because of accidents like the Chernobyl explosion in 1986 which caused many health issues and birth defects, and caused a whole city to be evacuated and abandoned. The city of Pripyat is still contaminated with radioactivity and is obviously harmful to those who would be allowed access. It is said that the explosion had enough nuclear power for 400 atomic bombs. No doubt the Turkey Point Power Plant could do just as much damage.

It would be a.shame for our beautiful Florida to be destroyed. While it is our source of power, there are other options for power other than nuclear power plants. It would be in the best interest ofthe citizens of Homestead to know that they are getting a safer source of energy. While the Turkey Point Power Plant is working perfectly fine, it can very well be the next Chernobyl and devastate another city, which includes two National Parks and or aquifer! Are these things worth losing?
Let's bring our energy to a new place, where we can use it in a clean way; withoutwasting our natural resources. Let's shy away from Nuclear Power Plants and not allow ourselves to be hurt by it. Let's be safe and stop the use of these power plants.
