- NON EMERGENCY "At approximately 0942 [EST] on January 16, 2013 an Atlantic sturgeon was reported being removed from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was determined to be an Atlantic Sturgeon, which is an "endangered" species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as "endangered" species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a.
"A report was made to the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife, concerning the Atlantic sturgeon at 1125 [EST] by Environmental Licensing.
"The sturgeon was released back into the river at approximately 1030 [EST]."
Reported by the licensee under 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi) and entered into the HooLog as a 50.72 loggable per HOO Procedure 50.72(b)(2)(xi) Attachment (1).
The licensee will inform state and local agencies and the NRC Resident Inspector. Notified R1DO (Rogge) and Endangered Species via email.
