Davis-Besse License Renewal Review Date: Tuesday, December 04, 2012 11:27:31 AM Mr. Michael Leonardi Toledo Safe Energy Coalition and Coalition Against Nukes

Dear Mr. Leonardi,

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) with your concerns about the license renewal proceedings for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1 (Davis-Besse). I understand that you are disappointed that the Commission reversed the Atomic Safety and Licensing Boards (ASLB) ruling on the admissibility of renewable energy contention. The administrative proceeding before the ASLB is not the only forum for members of the public to raise issues or concerns regarding Davis-Besses license renewal application. The NRC staff anticipates publishing a draft supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) in early 2013 and will be seeking public comments on its analysis and conclusions regarding the environmental impact should Davis-Besse be relicensed. As part of the DSEIS, the NRC staff does evaluate alternatives to relicensing Davis-Besse and their associated environmental impacts. In addition to seeking written comments, the NRC staff will conduct two public meetings on the DSEIS and will provide the opportunity for the public to present verbal comments on the DSEIS.

As part of preparing the final supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, the NRC staff will provide written responses to comments it receives from the public. Once the DSEIS is published, you will be able to access it on the NRC website at:

http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications/davis-besse.html.

If you would like to receive outgoing correspondence from the NRC Headquarters or Region III about Davis-Besse, you may subscribe to Davis-Besse e-mail lists at:

http://www.nrc.gov/public-involve/listserver/plants-by-region.html.

If you have additional questions about the Davis-Bess environmental review, you can contact Ms.

Elaine Keegan, of my staff, at 301-415-8517 or elaine.keegan@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, David Wrona, Chief Projects Branch 2 Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 301-415-2292
