SUBJECT:

FERMI POWER PLANT, UNIT 2, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT OF PLANS FOR RESTORATION OF THE SOUTH REACTOR FEEDPUMP

Dear Mr. Conner:

This letter is to acknowledge receipt of your November 16, 2012, letter that provided your current plans for restoration of the South Reactor Feedpump.

On June 25, 2012, Fermi Power Plant Unit 2 experienced a failure of the turbine assembly of the South Reactor Feedpump. Our understanding was that because of potential long lead times for repair of that pump you opted to make physical changes to your plant, under your design change process, to electrically and mechanically isolate the failed pump and to return to approximately 68 percent of rated power using your North Reactor Feedpump. On July 29, 2012, your operators restarted the plant upon completion of the design changes to isolate the failed feedpump.

We understand that you currently anticipate restoring the South Reactor Feedpump during a mid-cycle outage in the first calendar quarter of 2013. We also understand that the restoration in the first quarter of 2013 is contingent on successful completion of refurbishment and testing of the failed pump and that your anticipated plans may require adjustment. However, we acknowledge your commitment that the South Reactor Feedpump will be restored, at the latest, prior to completion of your refueling outage 16, presently scheduled for the first calendar quarter of 2014.

If our understanding is incorrect or if your plans for restoration of the South Reactor Feedpump change, please inform us verbally and in writing.

Sincerely,

/RA/
