- SALEM Emergency Class "At approximately 13:45 [EST] on November 14, 2012 a deceased sturgeon was removed from the Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was identified by a site biological expert as an Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus), which is an 'endangered' species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as
'endangered' species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a."
The licensee will notify the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notified the R1DO (Jackson) and Endangered Species Group 9via e-mail).
