UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION III 2443 WARRENVILLE ROAD, SUITE 210 LISLE, IL 60532-4352 November 2, 2012 Mr. Michael J. Pacilio Senior Vice President, Exelon Generation Company, LLC President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Exelon Nuclear 4300 Winfield Road Warrenville, IL 60555
SUBJECT:
REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Pacilio:
In a telephone conversation on October 25, 2012, Mr. C. Brown, LORT Lead Instructor, and Mr. B. Palagi, Lead Inspector, made arrangements for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to inspect a portion of your requalification program at LaSalle County Station. Mr. Palagi will observe the Training Departments administration of a requalification examination and inspect a sample of the licensed operator medical records in accordance with Inspection Procedure 71111.11B. Mr. Palagi will also review annual operating test pass-fail results. The inspection is planned for December 11 through 13, 2012, which coincides with your regularly scheduled requalification examination cycle. The staff at your facility should prepare and conduct the requalification examinations in accordance with your NRC-approved requalification program.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 55.59(c), the NRC may request facility licensees to submit their biennial comprehensive requalification written examinations or annual operating tests as necessary to support the NRC's inspection program needs. The NRC will review the operating test scheduled for the week of December 10, 2012, at the site on December 11, 2012. Mr. Brown has been advised of this request and provided with the name of the NRC lead inspector assigned to this inspection.
