14 September 2012 Michael Albert Moyer 320 Schoolhouse Road Pottstown, PA 19465-8032 Leslie Perkins U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Mail Stop 0-11 F1 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001
Dear Ms. Perkins,
As a supervisor in East Coventry Township, I represent over 5,000 residents who live across the Schuylkill River from the Limerick Generating Station (LGS). Their safety is my concern, and I have serious concerns about LGS.
Specifically, I'm writing to request a delay of final public hearing on the LGS environmental impact statement (EIS) until the NRC's Spent-Fuel Study is complete and disclosed to the public. The public then needs sixty-days to review the information prior to the final EIS public hearing.
When the U.S. District Court of Appeals ruled the NRC could not ignore the possibility that the federal government may never build a national repository for spent nuclear fuel, implicit in the ruling is that nothing, including any final public hearings, would go forward until this matter is addressed. To allow a final public hearing before this matter is completed is irresponsible and may subject the NRC, unnecessarily, to additional litigation.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, East Coventry Township Supervisor cc:
