Indian Point Units 2 and 3 License Renewal Application NRC Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDO1
Dear Sir or Madam:
I represent the City Of Peekskill and the Town of Cortlandt Manor, which includes the Village of Buchanan and the hamlets of Montrose and Verplanck as Westchester County's Legislator for the First District. I am writing to express my support for the relicensing of Indian Point Units 2 and 3 in Buchanan, NY. It is.nmy u n.der.standing.that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal a*"lidatidh, inclidirrg the potential for alternative energy sources Indian Point is an important source of energy production, and it emits virtually no greenhouse gasses. l-supplies;,.tw6en 25% and 30% of the electricity for New York City and the lower Westchester County areaýý,at a reasonable cost, while supporting the reliability of the electric grid. The facility employs about 1,100 full-time workers and it contributes hundreds of millions of dollars to our local economy.
Various -alternative energy sources have been proposed over the years, but none of them would be an acceptable substitute for Indian Point. Last year, the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection released the results of a study performed by Charles River Associates. That inrdepend6enrst'study demonstrated that any alternative to Indian Point would be higher-priced, would reduce air quality, and Would reduce the reliability of the electric grid.
I strongly encourage you to issue d renewed license for Indian Point once you have completed your'technical reviews of the facility. Thank you.
Sincerely,--
- John G.T61sta-..
