Indian Point Units 2 and 3 License Renewal Application NRC Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDO1
Dear Secretary Vietti-Cook:
I represent the Westchester Library System, an organization that provides library and online resources to Westchester County. I am writing to express support for license renewal of Indian Point Units 2 and 3 in Buchanan, New York. It is my understanding'that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application, and I would like to highlight the plants' significant contribution to the regional economy and its very positive effect on local land values.
According to the New York Independent System Operator, Indian Point provides 30 percent of New York City's power and 1 percent of the power generated in New York State.
Organizations like our own rely heavily on continued power so that our business can continue to operate successfully. People in our local communities also rely heavily on our resources for business, school, and personal use. If we were to lose such a reliable provider, like 'Indian Point, the people we support would be put in jeopardy.
Indian Point's benefits are well documented. A study by the Westchester County Alliance found that Indian Point is responsible for 11,000 jobs in the Lower Hudson Valley, ensures grid reliability, and lowers and stabilizes electricity prices. Finding and securing jobs for our residents in New York is extremely important. We provide career counseling services and links to job postings and it is always helpful to have a large employer to help our community thrive.
A report commissioned by the New York City's Mayor's Office shows that shutting down Indian Point would cause a 10-15 percent increase in wholesale electricity prices and an even higher increase in toxic emissions. The bottom line is that businesses and citizens need to know they are going to have access to affordable and reliable power and that their electric rates are going to r emain stable. Without the plant,, we could lose jobs anId also experience a possible degrade in regional air quality.

Those values could decrease if the facility were closed. I encourage you to renew the license for Indian Point.
Thank you for your time and considering my comments on this issue.
