Title:
NRC REGULATORY ISSUE
SUMMARY
2012-XX CLARIFICATION OF SUBMISSION OF REQUESTS FOR RELIEF OR ALTERNATIVES UNDER 10 CFR 50.55a Comments:
Dear Sir or Madam:
Considering the state of disrepair and constant malfunctions at most operating nuclear reactors in the United States, a loosening of regulations such as this will only enable further deterioration of safety standards.
Much-needed repairs will be pushed further into the future until serious breakdowns occur, the complicated remediation of which will be paid for by the taxpayers and ratepayers, as is usually the case.
There can be no slackening of standards when it comes to nuclear safety; the consequences of an accident are too enormous, the costs of prevention too negligable compared to the endless costs of "cure," if indeed there is a cure for nuclear radiation releases.
Please strengthen and not weaken the safety standards for nuclear plants and restore public confidence in our nuclear industry.
