Monday, September 17, 2012 9:21 PM Docket, Hearing Closing Indian Point DOCKETED USNRC September 18, 2012 (8:30 a.m.)
OFFICE OF SECRETARY RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF To whom it may concern, This email may be too late to count, but I still want to voice my concerns about Indian Point. I grew up along the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, NY, and even though we were up on a hill above the river we would often go down to the tracks and explore the far side. As childhood memories are tough to erase, the Hudson will always be special to me. Now I live in Malden Bridge, NY, and a high point of the summer was kayaking on the river in Beacon, thanks to a free event offered by Scenic Hudson! I love the river just as it is, and people have worked so hard to clean it up and take care of its shoreline, but my concern about the possible damage from an accident at Indian Point is most deeply centered in what it would mean for the city and the millions of people whom I don't know at all but whose lives would most likely be devastated by such an event.
My father worked for Central Hudson Gas and Electric and his father helped start the company, so I'm aware of the need for energy. But according to Riverkeeper we really don't need Indian Point's power, and the risk of pollution to the natural environment, to the economic welfare of the region, and of panic and disaster to everyone affected for miles around, make renewing the plant's license an ill-advised and shortsighted decision in my opinion.
PLEASE DON'T RENEW INDIAN POINT'S LICENSE!!
Thank you.
