Office of the Secretary, Rulemakings and Adjudications Staff, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC, 20555-0001 hearing.docket@ nrc.gov September 13, 2012 Pam Krimsky 419 N Riverside Rd Highland, NY 12528 845-834-2526 pkrimskv58@gmail.com

Dear Sir or Madame:

There is no good reason the forty year old Indian Point Nuclear Plant, should operate another twenty years. As a concerned citizen within a fifty mile radius from Indian Point, I believe my government must protect the health and well-being of citizens.

Indian Point is already worn out and will not safely operate another twenty years. There is certainly deterioration in pipelines and other hard to see places. Our increasingly erratic climate with frequent, severe hurricanes, tornadoes, and a rising water level in the Hudson, is good reason to close the plant, especially since it lies at the intersection of two earthquake faults. New York State recently experienced an earthquake, a hurricane and a tornado in just one week. Our large population is impossible to evacuate...Fukushimo investigations called for safety plans to evacuate a radius of fifty miles.

Nuclear power creates health hazards. In the late 1980's and 1990's, studies showed alower infant mortality rates when nuclear power plants were closed, particularly within a fifty mile radius. Nuclear power is dirty,(with no way to properly dispose of spent, radioactive tanks, even if there are no leaks or explosions). It makes more sense to replace nuclear powers with new green energy solutions. Replacing nuclear fuel with green energy will create needed diverse, well-paying jobs.
