Indian Point Units 2 and 3 License Renewal Application September 13, 2012 (5:45 pm.)

NRC Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDOI OFFICE OF SECRETARY RULEMAKINGS AND

Dear Sir or Madam:

ADJUDICATIONS STAFF I live and work in the Hudson River Valley. I am writing to express my support for the relicensing of Indian Point Units 2 and 3 in Buchanan, NY. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application, including the potential for alternative energy sources.

Indian Point is known and respected for its expertise in delivering clean, alternative energy, its commitment to jobs, and its philanthropic contributions to the community. Indian Point is an important source of baseload energy, and it emits virtually no greenhouse gasses.

It supplies 25% to 30% of the electricity for New York City and the lower Westchester County area, at a reasonable cost, while supporting the reliability of the grid. The facility employs approximately 1,100 full-time workers, and it contributes hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact to the region.

Various alternative energy sources have been proposed over the years, but none of them would be an acceptable substitute for Indian Point. Last year, the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection released the results of a study performed by Charles River Associates. That independent study demonstrated that any alternative to Indian Point would be higher-priced, would reduce air quality, and would reduce the reliability of the electric grid. I encourage you to renew the license for Indian Point once you have completed your technical reviews of the facility. Thank you.

Sincerely, 1kristi Hlennessy Resident 104 Essex Court Brewster, NY 10509 cc:
