Dear Sir or Madam:
I am concerned that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application for Indian Point including the impact of relicensing on land valuations, the potential for other alternative energy sources and more.
Indian Point Energy Center efficient operation requires the work and dedication of many thousands of highly trained and high skilled union workers and the union contracting firms who employ them. Personnel working at this particular power plant receive more job-related training than those in most industries. We believe the renewal of the operating license for Indian Point is critical for the economic viability many regional industries, including New York's real estate and construction sector where many of our members work.
Steamfitters Union Local 638 members have played an important role in the operation and maintenance of Indian Point. We entrust the facility and its operators Entergy, with guaranteeing a safe and secure work environment for our members. For our union and its members, safety and the highest quality of workmanship and training are critical.
Indian Point is the foundation of many thousands of jobs; it injects many hundreds of millions of dollars in spending, salaries and economic opportunity and savings to our region. If this were not enough, its production of more than 2,000 megawatts of electricity powers New York's mass transit system, schools, hospitals and our skyline
'D -So 0
which attracts 50 million tourists annually and houses the companies and families that make New York the great city that it is.
Local 638 is a steadfast supporter of Indian Point and maintaining the many benefits that flow from its clean, reliable and affordable electricity for the region. To threaten its continuation would result in a crippling impact for business and hard working families alike.
Members of Steamfitters Union Local 638 support and petition the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to unanimously relicense the Indian Point Energy Center. We anxiously await your reply and decision in this matter.
Sincerely, Richard Roberts Business Agent At-Large cc:

Dear Sir or Madam:
It is my understanding that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application for Indian Point including the effect of relicensing on land values in the area and the potential for alternative energy sources.
Indian Point Energy Center employs thousands of highly skilled, highly trained workers and contractors, With 85 years of electricity operating experience, Entergy is one of the world's largest producers of safe and clean nuclear energy. Indian Point personnel receive more job-related training than those of any other industry. Even after undergoing extensive training prior to assuming their plant responsibilities, reactor operators receive re-training every fifth week on the job to assure their skills are finely tuned.
The Enterprise Association of the Steamfitters Union, Local 638, whose members have long worked safely and securely at the facility believes that workplace safety is of the utmost importance, and appreciates Entergy's strong commitment to both public and employee safety.
This facility is a critical source of revenue, creates thousands of jobs and produces over 2,000 megawatts of clean and affordable electricity for the New York region. Our union recognizes that shutting down Indian Point would have a catastrophic impact on the region's economy and consumer electricity rates.
Replacing Indian Point would dramatically increase New York's dependence on imported power and force businesses out of the region.
For these reasons, and many others, the Enterprise Association, Steamfitters Union Local 638 supports and petitions the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to relicense the Indian Point Energy Center facility.
We look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter.
Sincerely, Patrick Dolan, Jr.
