Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing on behalf of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local Lodge No, 5 and its members to express support for the license renewal of Units 2 and 3 at the Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, New York. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the application for license renewal of Indian Point Units 2 and 3, including the effect of relicensing on land values in the area near the plants.

Our members not only work at the plant, but many live near it. The rigorous safety culture and high wages provide a strong foundation for our members to support their families while contributing tax dollars to their community. This preserves local land values and enables working families to build up home equity. The renewal of Indian Point's operating license is critical to the longevity of neighboring communities in which many of the plant's 1,400 employees and contractors - including members of Boilermakers Local 5 -live, work and play.

Simply put, land values decrease when residents do not have jobs.

The benefits of Indian Point are well-documented and its continued operation is essential for electric reliability, stabilizing energy prices, and increased public safety. These factors have contributed to the relocation of new businesses, industries, and people to the region. The loss of a large-scale employer like Indian Point would have serious negative impacts on the communities surrounding the plant: the elimination of thousands of jobs in Westchester County, many of which are skilled labor positions; reduced revenues to local governments from sales, income, and property taxes; and the likely relocation of people looking for new employment, ZONE S 24 VAN SICLEN AVE., FLORAL PARK, NY 11001 - 516-326-2500 - 718-895-7722 FAX: 516-326-3435 ZONE 175 - 28 WEST BRIDGE ST., OSWEGO, NY 13126

These values would surely decrease if this facility were closed. I strongly encourage you to renew the license for Indian Point.
