Docket, Hearing; Siarnacki, Anne
Subject:
Close Indian Point Indian Point has an "unworkable" evacuation plan. Indian Point's evacuation plan has been declared "unworkable" after extensive study by James Lee Witt, the former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. What's more, the evacuation plans covers only a 10-mile radius around the plant, when fallout could easily spread 50 miles or more. Millions of people could be at risk should an accident of some type occur.
Some definitions of the word accident:
acdcident noun
- 1. an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss; casualty; mishap: automobile accidents.
- 2. Law. such a happening resulting in injury that is in no way the fault of the injured person for which compensation or indemnity is legally sought.
- 3. any event that happens unexpectedly, without a deliberate plan or cause.
Sometimes accidents happen... so we should focus on what we would do if they occur. Indian Point is in a densely populated part of the country. The evacuation plan is unworkable. The extended area includes New York City..... I have never been a strong support of nuclear energy. However, we need to use common sense, If indeed, nuclear energy must be used (and I question that), then we need to reconsider a plant's proximity to heavily populated areas. In this area, any attempt at evacuation will result in gridlock and there will be no evacuation.
Please close Indian Point - now. Before an accident happens and that unworkable evacuation plan becomes a reality.
