As a lifelong resident of NYC and,.since 1995, Westchester County, I urge you to deny the application to re-license Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. I am not opposed to nuclear energy. However siting a plant 35 miles or so from Times Square in a place where there are millions of people within a 50 mile radius in the height of stupidity. Maps of Indian Point were found in Osama Bin Laden's papers before September 1 1 'h, Clearly it could be a terrorist target. Furthermore, there could be an accident or failure. In fact mishaps and closings seem to be routine. Accidents can happen.
Please have courage and follow your charge to protect the nation from potentially crippling damage. I know this is a difficult decision to make but it shouldn't be - this is simple and clear - Indian Point poses an unacceptable risk to our region, the millions of people who live and work there, and the sustained operations of the financial hub of the world.
Indian Point should be shut down and funds should be in place to allow decommissioning and long term monitoring.
