Wednesday, September 12, 2012 8:55 PM Docket, Hearing Time to Shut Down Indian Point Greetings--

Please turn down Entergy's application to extend the running time of Indian Point Nuclear Reactors for another 20 years.

The plant is old, has had historic failures and radiation leaks, the facilities that store its highly radioactive spent waste are not secure, and to this day, the nation has delayed a search for a suitable site to store such waste, so it is piling up at Indian Point, and at all of the nuclear power plants, endangering the communities that are nearby.

Should disaster strike Indian Point, the urban surroundings would make evacuation impossible and there would be great injury and loss of life.

NYS Assembly Committee on Energy concluded this year that there is more than enough power to allow Indian Point to close without overburdening ratepayers or threatening reliability standards.

I live in Southern California, where the San Onofre Nuclear Generators have stood idle for months, after leaks in the generators released radioactive steam into the environment.

Ratepayers here are still paying millions per month to the utility companies for nothing, while somehow energy supplies have managed to be kept up with demand.

Which means we in SoCal don't need this nuclear plant, and the Northeast doesn't need Indian Point.

Thank you for considering this option.
