Docket, Hearing Cc:

Siarnacki, Anne; Wianecki, Bruce

Subject:

DENY Entergy's license renewal to operate nuclear reactors at Indian Point Attention members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission:

I ask that you deny Entergy's application for a 20-year extension of its license to operate nuclear reactors at Indian Point in New York.

It is unthinkable that in the wake of the Fukushima disaster we would continue to turn a blind eye to our own vulnerability. Your commission has listed this plant as one of the most dangerous in the nation. It sits on the splendid Hudson River, amidst the most densely populated region in our nation. An accident here would be catastrophic--and is a likelihood. The Entergy plant has a history of problems--not least of which is waste disposal. It's already got 1500 tons of highly radioactive waste stuffed into its closets and cupboards! Where will it put more?

Nuclear power is outdated. Safer forms of renewable energy can and must replace it. Earlier this year the NYS Assembly Committee on Energy concluded that there is power enough to allow Indian Point to close. It's not necessary to continue placing our lives in jeopardy.

You have the opportunity to be the people with the foresight to stop the disaster before it happens.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely, Shannon Wianecki Shannon Wianecki writer & editor (8o8) 205-7273 www.shannonwianecki.com
