Indian Point Units 2 and 3 License Renewal Application ADJUDICATIONS STAFF NRC Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDO0

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am Cristina Kear, mom of three children in the Village of Montrose, NY, just 3 miles from Indian Point. I am writing to express my support for the relicensing of Indian Point Units 2 and 3 in Buchanan, NY. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application, including environmental justice concerns.

Indian Point is an important part of the New York State energy portfolio because it provides base load energy with virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. I am concerned about global warming and its effect on the environment in general as well as its effect on low-income communities in our area. In addition, if Indian Point were closed and replaced with fossil-fuiel alternatives, air quality in the New York City area would be worse. Childhood asthma rates in New York City are already higher than they should be, and any reduction in air quality would have a disproportionate effect on low-income households. Finally, to the extent that closing Indian Point will lead to higher electric bills ( a fact demonstrated by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's 2011 Charles River Associates report), those higher bills will hit low-income families the hardest. Taken together, these concerns lead to one conclusion: the NRC should renew the license for Indian Point.

I appreciate your consideration of my comments.

Regards, Cristina L. Kear cc:
