Subject:
Indian Point Nuclear Plant
Dear Concerned Persons:
It long overdue to take up the case of closing the Nuclear Plant at Indian Point. I live in Sparkill, New York not too distant from the plant. I am tired of hearing that the plant has not met the standards set for safety and nuclear waste.Recently I have read that more than 1500 tons of radioactive waste are stored in unfortified containers on the banks of the Hudson River at Indian Point. How long are we going to allow such a hazard in our midst?
Besides the amount of fish and other organisms killed by the the Points' cooling waters carcinogenic radioisotopes have been leaking into the Hudson for years.Clean Water Laws have required the use of the best technology to reduce environmental damage.Indian Point Owners have refused to upgrade for decades and the results are in our midst in the number decling species in The Hudson.
For years the Evacuation Plan has been found inadequte.and only cover 10 miles around the plan. We saw what happened in Japan. Are we waiting for a similiar disaster?
It is time to take action and close this plant NOW.
Sincerely, Margaret Teahan 175 Route 340 Sparkill, New York10976 DOCKETED USNRC September 7, 2012 (4:44 p.m.)
