Docket, Hearing; Siarnacki, Anne
Subject:
objections to Indian Point relicensing Indian Point has been a threat to millions of New Yorkers for too many years. It should not be relicensed; it should be closed.
When I moved to Rockland County and heard the test sirens, I froze because although they generally came at the same time of day, they could have been real. My husband and I planned for possible evacuation, wondering how we could handle it if we weren't in the same place.
I remembered the "take shelter" exercises in the New York City schools when I was a kid.
Alarms went off and we either had to huddle under undersized desks or were marched from the classroom to stand in the school's hall--there weren't sufficiently large basement rooms for the school's population. We truly were scared--and for much less of a threat than that posed by Indian Point.
The power generated by Indian Point is not needed; there are other ways to handle the power supply.
The fear of an explosion is based on all-too-good information. You have more accurate information than I could provide about the dangers and poor safety status of the plant; there's no need to parrot it.
