Indian Point Units 2 and 3 License Renewal Application NRC Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDO1

Dear Sir or Madam:

My name is Joe Brown; I am a consultant in the field of technology and have been part of the founding teams at three Silicon Valley start-up companies. I started my technical career at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in 1974. I am writing to express my support for the relicensing of Indian Point's Nuclear Power facility, units 2 and 3 in Buchanan, NY. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application, including environmental justice concerns.

Indian Point is an important part of the New York State power collected works because it provides significant energy with virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. I am concerned about global warming and its effect on the environment, as well as its effect on low-income communities in our area. In addition, if Indian Point were closed and replaced with fossil-fuel alternatives, air quality in the New York City area would be dramatically impacted in a negative direction. Childhood asthma rates in New York City are already higher than they should be, and any reduction in air quality would have a disproportionate effect on low-income households.

Finally, to the extent that closing Indian Point will lead to higher electric bills (a fact demonstrated by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's 2011 Charles River Associates report), those higher bills will hit low-income families the hardest. Taken together, these concerns lead to one conclusion: the NRC should renew the license for Indian Point.

I appreciate your consideration of my comments.

Sincerely, Joe Brown One Lakeview Drive 2K Peekskill, New York 10566
