Monday, September 10, 2012 3:08 PM Docket, Hearing No to Indian Point!
A nuclear plant should never have been built so close to a major population center such as Greater New York-and especially where two geological faults intersect. The wrongheadedness of this decision should have been abundantly clear before the initial permit was issued. It should be all the more clear now, as the bumbling, accident-prone managers at Entergy are asking the NRC for an extension of that permit. The "pro" comments all emphasize economic considerations. But imagine the consequences of a serious accident: an area thousands of square miles rendered uninhabitable for countless generations to come.
We are a long-retired couple, 77 and 74 years old, living on a tight pension. Nevertheless, we would be willing to pay higher electric bills, if necessary, to finally be rid of this threat hanging over us and our families.
