Dear Anne,
There was a time when I was in favor of nuclear fission being a clean, economical alternative to coal and oil.
However, after Chernobyl and Fukushima I can no longer be naive to the catastrophic facts if a nuclear fission plant fails. In theory, I was aware of what could happen in a nuclear accident, but now I know! I am sure we are all smarter after the above mentioned accidents and will plan even more safeguards and backups. But what if these fail? Is it really worth making New York City and the surrounding area uninhabitable? Emotion and money are never used in scientific analysis. We should be thankful to the signs we have been given.
Thank you Thomas J. Kenney DOCKETED USNRC September 10, 2012 (12:45 p.m.)
