OFFICE OF SECRETARY September 10, 2012 RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF Administrative Judge Lawrence G. McDade c/o Anne Siarnacki, Law Clerk Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel Mail Stop T-3F23 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 Re:

Indian Point Nuclear Generating Units 2 & 3 Docket Nos. 50-247-LR and 50-286-LR ASLBP No. 07-858-03-LR-BDO1

Dear Judge McDade,

I am writing to voice my support for the license renewal of Indian Point Nuclear Generating Units 2 & 3.

I am not an attorney, nor engineer and have no affiliation with any of the parties associated in the proceedings. For over sixteen years I have and continue to live within the 10-mile radius around Indian Point. I rarely experience a power outage and have never experienced a problem associated with Indian Point.

From 1989 to 1996 1 lived in the Town of Brookhaven. That was around the time when the decommissioning of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant was announced. I have been told "you got out just in time". Property taxes and electric rates increased and I have never heard a favorable comment regarding LIPA.

Between the oversight of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the constant scrutiny of the numerous opponents I am not worried about the safety of people or the environment. I am concerned that closure of Indian Point would cause energy shortages, increased property taxes, increased electric utility rates and an economic catastrophe for the entire region. I therefore support the license renewal of Indian Point Nuclear Generating Units 2 & 3.

Very Truly Yours, Walter J. Johnson IV
