UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION III 2443 WARRENVILLE ROAD, SUITE 210 LISLE, IL 60532-4352 September 5, 2012 Mr. Michael J. Pacilio Senior Vice President, Exelon Generation Company, LLC President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Exelon Nuclear 4300 Winfield Road Warrenville, IL 60555
SUBJECT:
REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Pacilio:
In a telephone conversation on August 22, 2012, Mr. G. Dudek, Training Director, and Mr. C. Zoia, Lead Inspector, made arrangements for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to inspect a portion of your requalification program at Braidwood Station. Mr. Zoia will observe the Training Departments administration of a requalification examination and inspect a sample of recent licensed operator problem identification and resolution issues, which have occurred in the past year in accordance with Inspection Procedure 71111.11B. Mr. Zoia will also review annual operating test pass-fail results. The inspection is planned for Tuesday, September 25, 2012, which coincides with your regularly scheduled requalification examination cycle. The staff at your facility should prepare and conduct the requalification examinations in accordance with your NRC-approved requalification program.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 55.59(c), the NRC may request facility licensees to submit their biennial comprehensive requalification written examinations or annual operating tests as necessary to support the NRC's inspection program needs. In order for the NRC to adequately prepare for this inspection, please furnish the operating test scheduled for the week of September 24, 2012. We have recently received a list of Action Requests/Condition Reports pertaining to the Operations Department within the last 12 months, and Mr. Zoia has selected the Condition Reports he will inspect. Mr. Dudek has been advised of this request and provided with the name of the NRC lead inspector assigned to this inspection.
