Viktoria Mitlyng (630) 829-9662 E-Mail: OPA3 @nrc.gov Jan Strasma (630) 829-9663 NRC NAMES NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT PERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jim Nance as the new resident inspector at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio. The nuclear power facility is operated by First Energy Nuclear Operating Company.

  • i*i Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. Nance joins Senior NRC Resident Inspector Mark Marshfield at the Perry facility.

Nance came to the NRC Region III as a reactor engineer in January 2011. Since joining the agency, he has completed a rigorous inspector qualification program and has participated in engineering inspections throughout the Midwest region. Most recently, Nance completed several assignments at the Braidwood and Byron nuclear power generating stations in Illinois.

"Nance's background, training, and experience will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants," said Cynthia Pederson, Acting Regional Administrator for NRC Region III.

Nance graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1980 and then served as a nuclear qualified officer aboard the USS Richard B. Russell (SSN-687), before leaving military service. Prior to joining the NRC, he served as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and as a partner in a consulting firm focused on Quality Management and Cultural Engineering.

The resident inspectors have an office at the Perry plant and can be reached by telephone at 440/259-3610.
