FINAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT ASSOCIATED WITH THE FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT ST. LUCIE, UNIT 1, LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST FOR AN EXTENDED POWER UPRATE
Dear Dr. Armijo:
During the 595th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS or the Committee), June 6-8, 2012, the ACRS completed its review of the extended power uprate application for St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, Unit 1 (St. Lucie 1), and the associated safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff.
By letter dated June 20, 2012 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML12135A390), the Committee provided its final report on the extended power uprate for St. Lucie 1. The NRC staff agrees with your recommendation that the agency should approve the extended power uprate for St. Lucie 1. In response to your second recommendation, the staff has updated its safety evaluation with information on its confirmatory analysis of the licensees fuel performance.
The NRC staff appreciates the Committees prompt and very thorough review of this extended power uprate application and the associated safety evaluation report. The NRC staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates the continued support of the power uprate process.
