LETTER NUMBER 2.12.047 D~ar Sir or Madam:

Reference 1 document identifies the commitments that are required to be completed prior to Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (PNPS) entering into the period of extended operation (PEO) on June 8, 2012. License Condition 8 of the Renewed Facility Operating License in Reference 2 states that Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy) shall notify the NRC in writing when implementation of these activities is complete.

The purpose of this letter is to provide notification that Entergy has completed implementation of these activities and they can be verified by NRC inspection with the following clarifications. Commitment 36 requires an ultrasonic test (UT) of the bottom surface of the Condensate Storage Tanks (CSTs). The CST 'B' tank testing is complete with results meeting the established acceptance criteria. The CST 'A' tank testing is in progress, however the completion has been impacted by unavoidable delays which have the potential to impact safe completion of the work. Final results of this testing will be documented upon completion and provided to the NRC.

Commitment 49 requires neutron absorber testing of Metamic in accordance with the Neutron Absorber Monitoring Program. One test of this material is required within five years proceeding the period of extended operation (PEO). The Metamic sample is currently at the qualified laboratory and results are expected in July of 2012.

Confirmation of this testing will be documented upon completion and provided to the NRC.
