Dear Chairman Jaczko:
Pursuant to a vote taken by the citizens of Plymouth, Massachusetts on May 12, 2012, the Plymouth Board of -Selectmen is compelled to convey the following message from our residents, who, by majority vote, approved the following non-binding referendum question perta.ining to the relicensing of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
Shall the Town of Plymouth request the Board of Selectmen to call upon the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ("NRC") to immediately suspend all further action on the application oj'the Entergy Corporation for renewal of its license to operate the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station pending the full implementation of all safety improvements recommended by the NRC as a result of lessons learned from the failures of similarly designed reactors in Fukushima, Japan.
While the Board understands that this action is non-binding, the Board respects the right of Plymouth's citizens to be heard on this matter, and, as such, the Board must honor its responsibility to communicate the sentiments expressed by its constituents.
