Wednesday, May 16, 2012 3:57 PM Rulemaking Comments Fort Calhoun Nuclean Power Plant -- closed for years now.
May 23, 2012 (11:45 am)
OFFICE OF SECRETARY RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF I live in Omaha, Nebraska, which is less than 30 miles from the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant in Fort Calhoun. Many residents of Omaha are concerned about a safe evacuation route should there be a meltdown.
This reactor is well over the life expectancy of a nuclear power plant since it was built back in the early 70s.
What would happen if we had a tornado hit around the plant? These are pretty common in these parts, as are violent storms and flooding. This plant has been closed down now for over two years, ever since it was flooded by a large storm system.
It sits right next to the Missouri River.
For the safety of hundreds of thousands of people living within 25 miles of Fort Calhoun, please do not even consider re-opening this dated and defective plant!
