50-338 50-339 License Nos.: NPF-4 NPF-7 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 NOTIFICATION OF EMERGENCY RESPONSE DATA SYSTEM (ERDS) CHANGES This letter is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI, Paragraph 3.b - Maintaining Emergency Response Data Systems (ERDS), for Virginia Electric and Power Company, North Anna Power Station Units 1 and 2.
A modification to the North Anna ERDS system is currently being tested offline, with the existing system continuing to provide service through dial-up modems. The modification will convert ERDS data transmission from the Plant Computer Systems (PCS) to supply the NRC supplied Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliance. Once testing is complete, the modification will be put into service on or about May 31, 2012. Bezakula Alemu, IT Project Manager, was notified of this pending change via email on August 15, 2011.
This information is being provided per 10 CFR 50 Appendix E, VI, 3.b, which states that "hardware and software changes, with the exception of data point modifications, that could affect the transmission format and computer communication protocol to the ERDS must be provided to the NRC as soon as practicable and at least 30 days prior to the modification".
