I am pleased to advise you that the Greenburgh Town Board unanimously approved the enclosed resolution at our February 2Stn Town Board meeting - calling for the closure of Indian Point.
We believe that the plant is very dangerous and should be shut down.

RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN BOARD OF THE TOWN OF GREENBURGH CALLING FOR THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION TO (1) REJECT THE RELICENSING APPLICATIONS FOR THE OPERATION OF THE INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR POWER PLANT FOR AN ADDITIONAL TWENTY-YEAR PERIOD, (2) TO REFRAIN FROM GRANTING THE ENTERGY CORPORATION ANY EXTENSIONS TO CURRENT LICENSES AT INDiAN POINT, AND (3) TO ORDER THE CLOSURE OF INDIAN POINT 2 AND INDIAN POINT 3, IN YEARS 2013 AND 2015, RESPECTrVEL Y, WHEN THE CURRENT LICENSES EXPIRE WHEREAS, the 9/11 attacks showed that terrorism can strike the greater New York metropolitan area and Indian Point has often been considered as a prime terrorist target; and WHEREAS, it was recently confirmed that two fault lines converge approximately one mile from Indian Point with a far stronger earthquake potential than believed at the time of construction, and that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has now deemed an Indian Point plant the most vulnerable to earthquake damage in the U.S.; and WHEREAS, the safety record of Indian Point is among the worst in the Country with a substantial number of safety requirements still not fulfilled. and WHEREAS, the Entergy Corporation, the owners of Indian Point, have not accepted the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's mandate to install cooling towers to prevent heating the Hudson River, causing the death of approximately one billion organisms in the Hudson each year; and WHEREAS, Entergy has applied for 20 year extensions to operate the plants to an age of 60 years when there is no reliable data about the safety of 40-60 year old nuciear power plants; and WHEREAS, the nuciear waste from Indian Point is only minimally protected, and amount of waste continues to increase on-site with no viable means of disposal; and WHEREAS, nuclear disasters such as Chernobyl and Fukushima have shown the need to evacuate people to areas often beyond 50 miles from the nuclear facility, and that the approximately 20,000,000 people currently living within 50 miles of the Indian Point have no realistic escape plan; and WHEREAS, many federal, state, and local government officials, including the current and previous New York State Governors, have called for the closure of the Indian Point plant; and WHEREAS, it has been now shown that the metropolitan New York region does not need the power produced by the indian Point plant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Board for the Town of Greenburgh that (1 )the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission should reject the re licensing application for the operation of the Indian Point nuciear power plants for an additional twenty year period, (2) the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Agency should not grant Entergy and extensions to the current licenses at Indian Point, and (3) the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Agency should order the closure of the Indian Point 2 in 2013 and Indian Point 3 in 2015 when the current licenses expire.
