DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Dear Mr. Micallef:
I am in receipt of your letter of January 18, 2012, in which you expressed concern that the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant operating license will be renewed without consideration of the existing geologic faults in the area.
Please be assured that if there are issues related to the safe operation of the Diablo Canyon Plant, they will be fully examined utilizing the Reactor Oversight Program which addresses current operating issues. If there are issues relating to safe operation based on the aging management of the plants passive systems, structures, or components, such issues will be dealt with during the license renewal review.
As I stated in my December 22, 2011 letter, should information arise at any time that demonstrates a basis to question the continued safe operation of the Diablo Canyon facility, NRC will take appropriate action as part of ongoing safety oversight.
